You must have been in the later part of the family and watched a variation on the original recipe. I remember it as, break stale bread into cup, pour in the morning's milk from the cow (preferably skimmed off of the top where there is lots of cream), and ... be liberal with the salt and especially pepper. Absolutely speckled with black on top!
I can't remember the egg going into the cup.
